1Roof, Lombard Odier’s new global headquarters on the banks of Lake Geneva, has reached a major milestone in sustainable architecture. By obtaining SNBS Platinum certification, in addition to its BREEAM Outstanding certification, 1Roof becomes the only building in Switzerland to simultaneously hold the highest level of both leading standards.
The dual distinction confirms 1Roof’s position as a new benchmark for sustainable buildings in Switzerland. It recognises the building’s excellence across environmental performance, user experience, economic efficiency and long-term value creation.

Independent recognition of a long-term ambition
The SNBS Platinum certification is particularly significant because it assesses sustainability across three complementary dimensions:
- Society
- Economy
- Environment
The holistic approach is central to 1Roof's ambition. Sustainable performance is not only about reducing environmental impact but also about creating places that support people, strengthen communities, use resources intelligently and remain adaptable over time. By recognising these dimensions together, the SNBS assessment confirms 1Roof’s ability to create sustainable value for its users and wider ecosystems.

Setting a new benchmark for sustainable buildings
The dual certification follows an independent and rigorous assessment conducted in accordance with some of the most demanding standards in the built environment. It validates the choices made throughout the project, from the earliest design phase through to construction and operational delivery. Each decision was guided by the objective of creating a building that could meet today's needs while anticipating tomorrow's demands.
Achieving both SNBS Platinum and BREEAM Outstanding… confirms that 1Roof’s sustainability credentials… extend across the environmental, social and economic qualities that define a truly resilient building
Achieving both SNBS Platinum and BREEAM Outstanding demonstrates the depth and consistency of this approach. It confirms that 1Roof’s sustainability credentials are not limited to a single dimension of performance but extend across the environmental, social and economic qualities that define a truly resilient building.
The latest achievement adds to a growing series of accolades for 1Roof. In its 2026 awards, Monocle recognised Lombard Odier’s new HQ as one of the year’s most remarkable architectural achievements. Set on the shores of Lake Geneva, the Herzog & de Meuron-designed building demonstrates how architecture can express a firm’s identity while rethinking the experience of clients and employees alike.

Sustainability made tangible
1Roof brings Lombard Odier’s commitment to sustainability to life through innovative solutions designed to reduce environmental impact, optimise resource use and support low-carbon operations. These include the use of renewable energy and connection to the GeniLac network, which draws on Lake Geneva's waters to heat and cool the building. 1Roof also incorporates efficient energy and water management, sustainable mobility infrastructure and high-quality workspaces designed to support well-being and collaboration.
Together, these features bring Lombard Odier’s commitment to sustainability to life in a concrete and measurable way. They demonstrate how the transition to a more sustainable economy can be reflected not only in portfolio and investment strategies, but also in the places where people work, collaborate and create value.
1Roof has been designed around both its physical environment and the people who use it every day: employees, clients and visitors
Designed around people and place
1Roof has been designed around both its physical environment and the people who use it every day: employees, clients and visitors. The audit highlights the quality of the spaces, occupant wellbeing, accessibility, layout flexibility, safety and the building's integration with its surroundings. Taken together, these elements help make 1Roof an exceptional workplace and a benchmark for contemporary architecture.
The headquarters provides a setting that supports collaboration, connection and adaptability. Its flexible spaces have been designed to evolve with the organisation's needs, while its emphasis on wellbeing reflects the importance of creating an environment in which people can perform at their best.
In this sense, 1Roof is more than a high-performing sustainable building. It is a place designed to bring people together, combining technical excellence with comfort, openness and a strong sense of belonging.

The architectural vision for 1Roof was shaped by the idea of bringing Lombard Odier’s Geneva-based colleagues together under a single roof, while creating a building that responds directly to its exceptional setting. For the renowned architects, Herzog & de Meuron, the concept was both practical and symbolic: a roof that protects, connects and defines space.
Rather than designing a building with a front and back, the architects opened 1Roof in every direction, embracing panoramic views of Lake Geneva and the mountains beyond. Inside, a series of varied platforms, terraces and spaces creates a sense of openness and intimacy, reflecting what Jacques Herzog describes as an architectural “social topography” – a place where people come together, collaborate and also find quieter spaces to focus. In this sense, 1Roof is not only a headquarters, but an environment designed to strengthen connection, identity and belonging.

A reference for sustainable architecture
According to the SNBS audit’s conclusions, 1Roof “ranks among the most accomplished references of the SNBS label”. This recognition confirms the building's status as one of Switzerland’s most accomplished developments.
With 1Roof, Lombard Odier has created far more than a state-of-the-art headquarters that reflects its heritage. It has delivered a building that embodies the Group’s commitment to sustainability, innovation and long-term value creation. By achieving both SNBS Platinum and BREEAM Outstanding certifications, 1Roof sets a new standard for buildings in Switzerland and beyond, demonstrating that environmental performance, economic resilience and human experience can be brought together at the highest level.
For Lombard Odier, whose long-term business interests are deeply intertwined with those of clients, society and the planet, this certification is more than an accolade. It is confirmation that 1Roof fulfils the vision set out at the start of the project: to create a headquarters that reflects, in physical form, the values the Group has upheld for more than two centuries.
