Building Bridges, a summit to build bridges between finance and the UN Sustainable Development Goals

As its name suggests, "Building Bridges" aims to bridge the world of finance and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDOs) of the United Nations in order to accelerate the financial industry's contribution to the achievement of these goals. From 7 to 11 October 2019, Switzerland is organising a sustainable finance week in Geneva with more than 30 events, including a summit on Thursday, 10 October. These combined events will make it possible to obtain a full picture of what needs to be done to finance growth sustainably.

Switzerland aims to use Building Bridges to promote tangible action thanks to a mutual understanding between all players in sustainable finance: banks, investors, governments, companies, the United Nations and civil society. Thanks to its unique ecosystem, Geneva has a special role to play in building these bridges and accelerating the implementation of Agenda 2030 by means of increased responsible investment.

The Building Bridges summit on Thursday, 10 October, will bring together some 800 decision-makers at the Bâtiment des Forces Motrices in Geneva, symbolically located on a bridge linking the left bank – the financial hub – and the right bank – International Geneva.

Chaired by Patrick Odier, Senior Managing Partner of the Lombard Odier Group, the conference brings together key stakeholders, including Ueli Maurer, the President of the Swiss Confederation Amina J. Mohammed, the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Sergio Ermotti, the CEO of UBS Group, as well as representatives from public authorities, finance, business, academia and international organisations to discuss ways to promote the growth of sustainable finance.
