Sustainably navigating investors - Lombard Odier’s inaugural Rethink Investments Summit Asia

In order to safeguard a sustainable future for us, and the next generation, we need to anticipate and respond to our clients, to ensure we protect and preserve their wealth for decades to come. As rethinkers, for over 220 years, Lombard Odier have been well equipped to venture into the unknown, steer through 40 financial crises and continue to create a whole new world of investment possibilities for our clients.

On 2 April 2019, we held our inaugural Rethink Investments Summit Asia, the brainchild of our Asia CEO Vincent Magnenat. The summit featured dynamic sessions on a wide range of investment topics from global macro-economics and Asian credit to private equity investing. Informed insights on the latest market trends were shared with 250 clients, banking partners and their clients from around Asia - led by CIOs and leading experts of Lombard Odier and our partner banks, who make up our Asia strategic alliance network.

The conference was ripe with lively discussions from global leading experts. The audience were invited to actively participate in polling sessions, interact with thought provoking dialogues and watched speed dating with “equities” in a light-hearted session where our panellists put the spotlight on high performing equities from their respective markets.

Our Chief Investment Officer Asia Pacific, Jean-Louis Nakamura, opened the forum with an interactive session on the theme of asset prices and economic reflation. He explained how, structural changes, economic fundamentals and evolving roles for policymakers all interact together to explain the dynamics of the financial markets.

Hubert Keller, our Managing Partner, shared the bank’s conviction that the forces of sustainability are fundamentally reshaping our global economic models and reforming it rapidly. He said, “There will be massive investment opportunities for those who believe in the sustainability revolution and those who are willing to look at companies through a sustainable lens." And at Lombard Odier, we believe that sustainability is the largest investment opportunity in history and those who adapt will be the winners of tomorrow.

There will be massive investment opportunities for those who believe in the sustainability revolution and those who are willing to look at companies through a sustainable lens.

As a firm that has always focused stability, it was fitting that, our Head of Fixed Income, Asia Pacific, Dhiraj Bajaj, focused on the long-term opportunities in the Asian bond market for investors and led a lively panel.

Investors are living uncertain times today. And new trends in technology, geopolitics and cultural attitudes can influence the outcome of the ongoing cyclical slowdown. David Junod, our Investment Director, at Lombard Odier Investment Managers (LOIM), from our New York Office, went on to explain the lure of private equity in times of market volatility.

Investors are living uncertain times today. And new trends in technology, geopolitics and cultural attitudes can influence the outcome of the ongoing cyclical slowdown.

For investors today, we need to remain agile in a constantly changing environment. In the words of our Asia CIO, the key is having the right ingredients to create a balanced portfolio and ensuring we have a core satellite investment approach underpinned by sustainability.
