HYDROcontest seeks to answer the big environmental and economic challenges of maritime transport. Transport by sea is the cheapest and most popular means of transporting large quantities of goods over long distances. While boats emit nearly 60 times less carbon dioxide than aeroplanes per tonne transported, their efficiency and greenhouse gas emissions could still be improved.
HYDROcontest is an annual competition to tackle the issue, and is open to teams of university and engineering school students from all over the world. The challenge is to create a faster, more energy-efficient motor boat. It aims to create awareness of energy problems among tomorrow’s engineers and designers, and to encourage them to develop innovative technologies that could one day be used commercially.
