EPFL Forum

As part of the EPFL Forum, discover some of our EPFL alumni working in Lombard Odier. They are from different Lombard Odier services, different EPFL sections and years of graduation but they all have a story to tell. Some of them will be present at the Lombard Odier stand so take the opportunity to discuss opportunities at Lombard Odier with them.

Caroline - Financial Engineering'10

Private Banking Investment Services
I am part of the Fixed Income Portfolio Management team within the CP-Investment. Following my Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics at EPFL, I graduated in Financial Engineering in 2010. I joined Lombard Odier in November 2010 as a junior portfolio manager/analyst for the Fixed Income team, managing funds and mandates dedicated to the Private Bank unit. I passed all three levels of the CFA programme and am a CFA charterholder since 2014
« I was in the first promotion of Financial Engineering and every day I am pleased to combine my inclination for mathematics and the challenging world of finance. »

Nicolas J - Syscom’13

Telecom Engineer
As a telecom engineer, I have to maintain the good health of our network infrastructure so that clients can access the applications correctly. It has to do with our local network, as part of our datacentre, as well as the links with our branch offices worldwide. Additionally, I have to deal with cutting-edges technologies in order to keep up to date and improve our infrastructure. Recently I have been assigned to study the network virtualization, which will probably be the future of networking.
« One of my most fun projects is the implementation of Network Virtualization »

Nathalie - Syscom’09

Marketing & Business Development
I have been working at Lombard Odier since 2009 in several roles. I started as Market Data Specialist and External Service. Then I continued as head of IT project for Branch Offices. Later I was responsible of Service Level Agreement of all our partners (financial institutions to whom we are providing our IT and Banking Infrastructure). And now I am in charge of Marketing & Business Development for our IT unit. Every job was different, but what they all had in common was the fact that I was always in charge of challenging transversal projects.
« Since 2009 I have changed roles four times. Lombard Odier offers really good internal mobility opportunities. »

Florian W - INFO'14

IT Security Engineer
During my Computer Science studies at EPFL, I was offered a master thesis position at Lombard Odier. Initially reluctant about doing IT in a private bank, my project, revolving around automatic correlation of (security) events, quickly made me catch sight of the fascinating complexity of Lombard Odier’s Information Systems, impressive for a company of that size. I stayed as a Security Engineer and my current work consists of implementing new defensive or detective mechanisms, managing IT Security infrastructure as well as consulting on various IT projects from a security perspective.
« At the end of the day, securing the human is at least as important as securing the systems. »

Ariane - Maths'96

CP Business Risk Manager
I have been working at Lombard Odier since October 2001. I started as a quantitative analyst in the Asset Management department. I then joined the Risk Management team which is in charge of managing the Group's financial risks. Since 2013 I have been responsible for the investment risk of the Private Banking Investment Services unit. My job is to identify, measure, and manage market risk, liquidity risk, and counterparty risk associated with financial products and instruments deployed in private client portfolios.
« In my job I especially enjoy the everyday challenges of maintaining an effective partnership between the front office and the risk team to ensure stability and development of our business. »

Sergio - Syscom’09

Head of Mobility and Telephony
I started working at Lombard Odier in 2010, shortly after obtaining my Master’s degree in Communication Systems at EPFL. Today, I’m responsible for the Unified Communications and the Mobility teams. On the Unified Communications side, our goal is to allow people to communicate to anyone, anywhere and at any time. For that, we manage a range of technologies, which include IP telephony, Instant Messaging, high-end telepresence endpoints. On the Mobility side, we are responsible for the Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) solutions, which includes not only managing the mobile devices fleet on the architecture side but also defining and implementing BYOD.
« What I like in my job is the challenging environment and the high-tech solutions we get to use everyday »

Francesco - Electrical engineering’91

Head of asset management IT systems
I hold a master degree in Electrical Engineering from EPFL where I graduated in 1991. I started my career as a software developer in aeronautics and physics then, after 10 years, I moved into the financial industry. I joinded Lombard Odier in 2002 as a business analyst. I am currently working in the IT department where I am in charge of the development of front office applications including portfolio management systems, customer relationship management applications as well as client reporting tools. My job is about leading a team, interacting with business users and external clients, understanding business requirements and defining product roadmaps.
« Every day I have the opportunity to learn new topics, understand problems from different domains and find a way to solve them through technology. This is a challenging work environment that motivates me »

Florian G - Syscom’14

Project Manager
I work at Lombard Odier as a project manager. With the high performance of its Banking and IT platform, LO has become a service provider for other external banks. Implementing the infrastructure of these client banks are key and long term projects. The team I’m involved is responsible for managing these projects from analysis to go-live. This is a unique opportunity to understand the way a bank works in its globality as we deal with all business areas from front office to back office. The human dimension is also a key part of a project’s success and it is really gratifying to work with people from many countries and understand their job in order to provide them with the best solution.
« Working with external banks from many countries in a wide area of business fields allows me to continuously learn something new not only about the world of banking but also about human relationships »

Nicolas B - Microtech’08

Head of Project Management Office
I work at Lombard Odier as head of a project management team. Already a historical leading Private Bank of Switzerland, LO developed a high performance IT Banking platform, which is now part of a broader Operating & IT out-servicing offer for other external banks. With 13 international offices, 6 external partners and a lot of new things to implement, we have to deal with multiple projects from small changes to full new bank setup. My team is managing these projects from first analysis to go-live.
« My motivation? The development of our new growing out-sourcing service with the help of our great team of project managers. Solving complex issues across many countries, in multiple business areas. Discovering everyday people with different cultures and horizons »
