Gibraltar has for several centuries occupied a strategic position between Europe and Africa, where the Mediterranean and Atlantic meet. Since 1973, Gibraltar, as an Overseas Territory dependent on the United Kingdom, has been part of the European Union and has gradually incorporated all the directives of the EU governing financial services.

 

As a major financial centre, Gibraltar established the Financial Services Commission, whose primary purpose is to enforce the regulatory legislation and monitor the financial sector in order to provide first-class investor services.
