About Generation
An innovating sustainability approach
Generation Investment Management LLP was co-founded by former US Vice President Al Gore and former global CEO of Goldman Sachs Asset Management, David Blood. Al Gore is the company’s Chairman and David Blood its Managing Partner. Established in 2004, Generation is privately owned and has offices in London, New York, and Sydney.
Generation differs from more traditional investment managers in its method of seeking superior investment performance. Generation engages in primary research that integrates sustainability with fundamental equity analysis. Generation’s investment approach is based on the premise that sustainability factors - economic, health, environmental, social and governance - will ultimately drive a company’s share price over the long term. Generation invests in high-quality businesses whose securities are attractively priced.
Outstanding sustainability and investment credentials
Al Gore chairs the Generation Investment Management Advisory Board, which includes some of the world’s pre-eminent economic, political and environmental thinkers. The Advisory Board meets twice annually and assists the Generation investment team in understanding long-term sustainability themes which feed into their investment decision-making process.
Generation is one of the few investment managers from around the world that has successfully integrated sustainability research and fundamental equity analysis. There is no separate sustainability team: the company’s investment professionals undertake both sustainability research and fundamental equity analysis. Therefore, sustainability is present in each part of the investment process - from identifying companies for further research to the assessment and valuation of these companies for inclusion in the portfolio.
